The best recollection is that the NCMC took a trip to Cascade Pond in the mid-1990s, and to that same pond in some other year as well. One year the NCMCers changed into their ski boots at the little store at the intersection of Routes 28 and 30 in Blue Mountain Lake and went into the pond by a steeper more direct route, rather than through the Lake Durant campground on Route 28 along the Northville-Placid Trail.
On one of the trips, a day ski was made to the Stephens Pond lean-to, where they met a group of day skiers, including a guy who was a little nutty and became argumentative.
Tom recalls walking out from Cascade Pond one year on snowshoes with a full Nalgene bottle frozen solid clinking against his back.
It’ a nice downhill ski from Cascade Pond back to the Lake Durant campground.
